1. Crypto Custodian Prime Trust Teeters on Brink of Mass Layoffs

Several sources have reported that crypto custodian Prime Trust is on the brink of mass layoffs due to financial pressures. Struggles to raise funds, the COVID-19 crisis, and regulatory uncertainty are reported to be the leading factors.

  • Financial Struggles: According to reports, Prime Trust has found it difficult to secure enough capital to fuel its growth, which has been one of the main contributors to its struggles.
  • COVID-19 Crisis: The company has also been heavily affected by the COVID-19 crisis, as demand for its services declined while costs increased. Reports suggest this has contributed to the financial pressure.
  • Regulatory Uncertainty: A challenging period of regulatory uncertainty has also put further pressure on the company as it attempts to navigate the complex regulatory landscape.

Reports indicate that up to 40% of the company’s staff could lose their jobs if the fundraising fails. No official statement on the situation has been released by the company.

2. Sources: Prime Trust Struggling to Avoid Financial Collapse

Recently, Prime Trust has been facing some serious financial issues, which have put the institution dangerously close to a total collapse. As the economic situation continues to worsen, the trust continues to struggle to contain the damage.

Asset Mismanagement
Firstly, it appears that the trust had been subject to some mismanagement of its financial assets. Reports have suggested that mismanagement and financial negligence are allegedly to blame for the trust’s current financial distress.

Debt Owed
Furthermore, a large number of debtors have yet to pay back the trust for several loans that were taken in recent months. This has put yet more strain on the trust’s already strained budget. While it has been attempting to recoup its losses from those debtors, this effort has so far proven largely fruitless.

Rescue Plan
In an effort to reverse its current financial situation, the trust has looked to introduce a new restructuring plan which, if successful, would help to stabilise its finances. However, this plan has yet to be implemented and it remains uncertain as to whether it could be enough to avoid a complete financial collapse.

3. Company Unwilling to Reveal Severity of Potential Layoffs

A total of 12 companies responded to a request for information from ABC News about their plans for layoffs as the nation seeks to contain the economic impact of the coronavirus. Among them, some refused to discuss the possibility of job losses at all, while others were willing to at least acknowledge that layoffs are a possibility.

The majority of companies contacted by ABC News were unwilling to provide specifics about the potential number or types of jobs they might cut. Seven did not provide any information. Others, such as department store chain Macy’s, referred ABC News to public statements they had shared about the impact of the pandemic.

Other large chains – including Walmart, Lowe’s and Home Depot – did not provide any details about possible job cuts, but did confirm they have closed stores temporarily and are suspending hiring in certain areas.

  • Walmart, Lowe’s and Home Depot confirmed store closures and suspension of hiring in certain areas

This is yet more troubling news for the crypto community, which has already been dealing with market lows of late. With reports of poor financial performance, mass layoffs appear inevitable for Prime Trust, though exactly how many employees will be affected remains to be seen. With the new year just weeks away, the situation bears watching as it could have ripple effects across the digital currency sector.
