Kraken, an American-based cryptocurrency exchange, is looking to expand its services in the United Kingdom after its derivatives offering was granted an operating license from the U.K. Financial Conduct Authority. According to reports released by Bloomberg, Kraken’s subsidiary Crypto Facilities Ltd. plans to expand its portfolio of digital currency derivatives contracts to include more assets, launch in more jurisdictions around the world, and offer additional services for investors.
1. Kraken UK Expansion: Move to Offer Derivatives Services
Opening Markets to More UK Traders: Kraken, the leading global cryptocurrency exchange, has announced their move into offering derivatives services in the United Kingdom. Traders will have access to trading derivatives contracts, such as futures and options, on the Kraken Platform. This move will open the markets to a much larger scope of traders in the UK, with the goal of allowing for more liquid trading opportunities.
The exchange is rolling out the derivative services through partner AlphaPoint, a provider of digital asset exchange solutions. Mark Wetjen, head of global public policy and government relations at Kraken, said ”The move toward derivatives trading constitutes one of the key steps in providing financial markets with the same types of services and products available to traditional asset classes.”
The addition of derivatives trading would enable traders to diversify their portfolios and access more sophisticated products. It could also create larger markets for individual assets, offer more liquidity, and expand capital flows. Additionally, Kraken is exploring further initiatives to get involved in the UK markets, including gaining a UK financial license.
2. Kraken Secures Authorisation from the UK Financial Conduct Authority
Kraken, one of the world’s oldest and most secure cryptocurrency exchanges, has been granted an Authorisation from the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). This authorisation grants Kraken permission to operate as a crypto asset firm in the UK, a crucial market for many cryptocurrency investors.
The FCA’s certification gives investors in the region added reassurances that Kraken is compliant with applicable UK markets and financial regulations. Kraken also offers various services that are subject to FCA authorisation, such as spot crypto trading of a variety of coins and tokens, as well as margin trading. Currently the UK accounts for 8% of Kraken’s daily trading volume.
As Kraken Chief Legal Officer Marco Santori explained: “The FCA’s rigorous approach to our application process is evidence of the standards of excellence we strive for at Kraken, and we are thrilled to be recognised as a leader in our industry by one of the world’s premier financial regulators.”
Kraken are now able to offer a number of services including:
- Spot Crypto Trading
- Margin Trading
- Crypto Asset Custody
3. Kraken Primed to Present a Dynamics Alternative to UK Investors
Kraken, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, is quickly becoming a popular alternative in the UK investment scene. As the British economy faces uncertain times, many investors are seeking a method to protect their nest eggs without relying on traditional stocks and bonds. Kraken is well-positioned to fill that role.
The exchange offers valuable diversification from traditional capital markets, which are subject to fluctuations based on political and economic upheaval. In contrast, Kraken operates on the blockchain platform, making it much more resistant to disruption.
Further, the platform boasts a range of features which provide UK investors with added flexibility. These include a range of order types, margin trading, and advanced charting tools. Furthermore, the exchange offers tight spreads – so investors can benefit from market volatility while keeping commissions low.
- Diversification from Traditional Markets
- Resilience to Economic Disruptions

Kraken’s UK derivatives unit is looking to ramp up its offerings in a bid to capitalize on the rapidly growing demand for crypto investing. The unit’s move is indicative of the mainstreaming trend which is gaining traction in the crypto space and may be a trend that other exchanges eventually adopt. Investors should keep following the situation to stay inform of the latest developments and ensure that they are getting the most out of their portfolios.
