Coinbase Prime has launched a unified cross-margin functionality for institutional clients, integrating spot and derivatives trading, along with regulated futures. This initiative is backed by Coinbase’s Financial Markets, which provides access to over 20 futures contracts, reflecting the company’s aim to enhance capital efficiency in an increasingly competitive environment where derivatives account for a significant portion of crypto trading volume—approximately 70% to 75%. The move aligns with Coinbase’s strategy to establish itself as a comprehensive prime brokerage by offering custody, risk management, and trading services within a single platform, following its recent expansion into stock trading as part of its “Everything Exchange” vision.
