Your guide to the crypto twitter cast of characters.
With the announcement of Facebook’s Libra Cryptocurrency this week, there’s been a flood of new blood on cryptotwitter. We welcome you, and we know what you’re going through.
You probably thought Swiss based nonprofits, decentralized governance, and permissioned blockchains were going to be the hardest things to understand, and then you found the fucking cast of characters we’ve assembled on twitter. We know. It’s a lot.
Have no fear, our crack team has put together a bit of a starter guide to the kinds of people you’ll find on crypto twitter.
Like Milo, but for crypto. They’re supposed experts in economics, or gold, or something. They’ve been wrong so many times, but they just….keep….talking about bitcoin. Don’t feed the trolls.
It is always a bull market for these guys. Sometimes brilliant. Sometimes a little out there. Always entertaining.
Actually, just start with Pomp. He’s plenty.
Space cats, dogs who give intelligent market analysis, kurt cobain. Believe it or not, this is where you’ll find some of the best content.
Follow a few. Be amused. Maybe learn something.
Kinda like that kid at your high school who was really into that band nobody had heard of. He always wore the t-shirts and kept telling you to listen to them. Then all of a sudden that band was playing arena shows and everyone realized they were awesome, but instead of being happy that kid lost his fucking mind and hates everyone.
Mostly white dudes, mostly just really passionate about bitcoin, but sometimes super tribal and arrogant. There are many, but here are a couple to get you started. Just don’t use the word “blockchain,” and don’t tread on their Bitcoin.
They mostly slay ass and share instagram stories from yachts. Crypto Jazeera recently did a winning profile on Jeremy Gardner, and we all know that Trevor Koverko could rip a fart and Coindesk would write a story on it.
They don’t take themselves too seriously, and they drop knowledge on the regular. Here are a few to get you started.
Just remember, like with those people on LinkedIn who post random shit all the time, there is usually an inverse correlation between lots of online posting and actually building something of value.
Proceed with caution, but proceed.
