Characterizing the Nostr Protocol Relay Network
Characterizing the Nostr Protocol Relay Network
The Nostr protocol, a decentralized microblogging network, employs a relay network to facilitate message propagation. This network is crucial for the protocol’s functionality, yet its characteristics remain largely unexplored. In this study, we analyze the Relay Graph, mapping the relationships between relays. We find that the network exhibits a power-law degree distribution, indicating a hierarchical structure. The relays are geographically diverse, reducing censorship risks. Moreover, our analysis reveals the presence of clusters within the network, suggesting the emergence of communities. These findings contribute to our understanding of the Nostr protocol’s infrastructure and resilience.
