Pakistan passes virtual assets act 2026, establishes PVARA regulator

Pakistan has enacted the Virtual Assets Act 2026, establishing the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) to license crypto exchanges and custodians, catering to the country’s 40 million crypto users. This legislation formalizes a previous ordinance into permanent law, and PVARA will also oversee the registration and licensing of virtual asset exchanges and service providers. Additionally, the authority has initiated a crypto testing framework to support the development of regulated digital assets within the country.
