OpenAI and Oracle have chosen not to move forward with plans to expand their data center in Abilene, Texas, from 1.2 GW to 2 GW, according to a report from Bloomberg. This decision comes amidst Meta Platforms exploring options to lease the intended additional capacity following the failed negotiations. Despite halting the expansion, OpenAI and Oracle plan to continue their existing cloud computing agreement, which is part of OpenAI’s broader Stargate project aimed at developing nationwide AI compute infrastructure.
