In a recent interview, Wendy Tan White, CEO of Intrinsic, a Google portfolio company, shared insights on how AI-enabled robotics could significantly shift the global manufacturing landscape. She emphasized that as low labor costs become less critical, the industry could witness a transformative economic shift fueled by advanced robotics. Intrinsic, which launched five years ago from Google X, has entered a joint venture with Foxconn to develop “the factory of the future” that enables the production of a diverse range of products through flexible, software-driven solutions. Tan White’s vision suggests that this innovation would empower smaller businesses and regions with higher labor costs, allowing them to compete more effectively by reshoring manufacturing.
