France Central Bank to issue its digital currency, HTC launches “blockchain smartphone”

Bank of France announced that it will test central bank-issued digital currency in 2020, as “concern grows among governments over new currencies run by Facebook and others”. Despite being centralized and radically different from cryptocurrencies per se, the news have excited the crypto community as an acknowledgment of technology benefits.

The Taiwanese electronic giant HTC partnered up with the biggest cryptocurrency exchange Binance to launch a special smartphone edition, which just went live on sale. The phone has a built-in crypto wallet, supports Binance’s native blockchain and can be purchased with crypto.

Central banks all over the world are looking closer at blockchain applications. The two Asian countries have now partnered up to explore digital currencies applications to “facilitate quicker payment in bilateral trade”.
