Falsifying Bitcoins Stock-to-Flow – Everything-Blockchain
Szabo termed this general property a secure property title.
Is a Bitcoin really such a secure property title? Is bitcoin digital gold, maybe even gold 2.0? Is the Bitcoin network a vault? Are those trolls and spells real? In short: is bitcoin a permanent + secure storage grid? ROM or just RAM?
Nick Szabo calls Bitcoin a “gold-bug idea” (Szabo 2011). If Szabo was Nakamoto, well, I would assume it was a gold-bug idea…but since there is no reason to assume it → for any unbiased being, there should be doubt about this assumption.
4) What does it mean for a paper to be “white”?
Bitcoins whitepaper is a >>white<<-paper. White means that it is free from any ideology and politics, otherwise it would be a grey-paper. Yes, maybe this was just a smart move from Nakamoto to keep his ideology out of it, but maybe there was no ideology at all. The only indirect reference to the Cypherpunk ideology is the later added (on suggestion of Adam Back) reference to Wei Dais B-Money.
The paper was not anti-bank, Nakamoto wrote that the existing banking system works for most transactions, but that there is a set of situations where Bitcoin is superior.
5) Was there a hint in the Genesis Block?
The Whitepaper was released right at the bottom of the financial crisis in November 2008, he nearly called the low or “bottom” of the S&P-500! In 2009, the genesis-block was mined. In this block, there was a time-stamp to the head-line of the TIMES from January 3rd.
“Chancellor on Brink for second bailout for Banks”
This could be a hint but is no proof. It is much more likely that Nakamoto could not have foreseen the financial crisis (like most, even very smart people), and that he just took the headline of the day. On the other hand, Nakamoto was not normal regarding his interest in money… maybe it was even obvious to him but this is not the same as foresight about when it will happen.
thanks to the time stamping there are not so many possibilities:
The release of the software was two month after the white paper. Why should he have used another article? The financial crisis was THE topic at that time. Was he also able to foresee what the TIMES will print on the front paper? Did he mined that block beforehand? The timestamp of the next block is a full six days after the genesis block. This leaves space for some possibilities:
- reuse of a pre-MainNet block,
- 6 day period due to very low hashrate,
- or he used a three days old headline to match it to his “secret” ideology.
Anyways, the importance to have a time stamp, something like a headline, is to show that he did not mined in advance. So it is not about political-statements in the first place. Therefore, it was important to get a verifiable headline.
“Nonono! But the fixed-supply is an indicator that Nakamoto was a libertarian, he believed in Austrian economics!” … OK, lets see what Nakamoto said about the WHY:
6) The fixed supply Argument
„because I don’t know a way for software to know the real world value of things. If there was some clever way, or if we wanted to trust someone to actively manage the money supply to peg it to something, the rules could have been programmed for that.
In this sense, it’s more typical of a precious metal. Instead of the supply changing to keep the value the same, the supply is predetermined and the value changes. As the number of users grows, the value per coin increases. It has the potential for a positive feedback loop; as users increase, the value goes up, which could attract more users to take advantage of the increasing value.” (Nakamoto on P2P-Foundation)
In 2008 smart-contracts and decentralized interactive oracles were not invented, there was no multi- or general purpose DLT before Bitcoin… Nakamoto implicitly said, that IF there was a way, he would have made Bitcoin a variable-supply-coin and that he at least hopes for a bootstrapping-effect. I assume this kids, is how…uhm… how BitCoin became BitGold :).
We can go on like this for ever. Most Assumptions are wrong…
…or at least unproven a priori assumptions. Wishful thinking to fit the narrative.
OK, let us look into the future: Bitcoin is at 1,000,000$. Do you remember December 2017? Remember how fees topped at 60$!?
When do fees usually tend to go up?
Fees go up when people are willing to pay such high fees.
If the Off-Shore banking sector is using Bitcoin as a store-of-value, then of course they are willing to pay 2000$ for a 100 Million USD cross-border transaction.
Costs of Transaction in the Gold-System
During the cold-war, the German Bundes Bank here in Germany, brought their gold to the US and France. They feared invasion of the Soviets. After the fall of the soviet union, they wanted to import their gold back (Gold repatriation). In 2013 they announced their plans to repatriate 300 tons from their US reserve and 374 tons from their reserve in France. They are still not done.
OF COURSE they would pay thousands of dollars of transaction fees, peanuts!
Costs of Transaction in Crypto
In 2017 the ICO of the Basic Attention Token (BAT) gave us a taste of how it will be:
- Total transaction fees paid 70.15 ETH (>$15,000), with highest single fee being ~$6,600
- 185 purchases were successful, over 10,000 failed
- The Ethereum blockchain’s capacity was full for 3 hours after the sale started

If Bitcoin was really a store-of-value for the on- and off-shore banking sector (which is not the intention of the initial design), well, then you are out of the game. No chance to ON-chain move your coins ever again. You would be in the unconfirmed-loop for ever. Lightning-Network does not help here in any way.
So…any price prediction of that kind, naively implies the following options:
- Nakamoto Consensus is scaleable and the scaleability trilemma was solved
OR
- Bitcoin has become a low-throughput +banking + store-of-value chain
Since there is NO scientific evidence for scaling Nakamoto Consensus, you implicitly chose option B).
