The current airspace environment is forcing a rethink that goes beyond flight planning desks. It touches fleet composition, route selection, scheduling, crew rostering and ultimately the pace at which India’s airlines can profitably expand their long-haul international footprint, writes aviation expert and Managing Partner of aviation services firm AT-TV, Satyendra Pandey.

As the West Asia conflict tapers down, and as capacity gradually is introduced back into the network, India’s airlines now face the challenges of planning for airspace closures. These have permanently altered route economics. Mostly because India’s airlines are flying through one of the most constrained geopolitical airspace environments in living memory.
