It’s already been three years since this small but brave country embraced Bitcoin as legal tender. In just a few weeks, its capital, San Salvador, will host the fourth edition of Adopting Bitcoin—an event that champions education and adoption not only locally or regionally but also far beyond. This year’s program is even more special, featuring a dedicated space for children and their mentors, paving the way for a brighter future focused on sovereign generations.
Just two months after El Salvador took a significant step toward financial independence by becoming the first nation in the world to adopt Bitcoin as official currency, the inaugural event, ‘Adopting Bitcoin: A Lightning Summit,’ took place from November 16-18 in El Zonte/El Tunco, as well as in the capital, San Salvador. What began as an initiative to educate locals, primarily thanks to the efforts of Galoy (open-source software for enterprise-scale integrations and applications), soon became a cornerstone of the global Bitcoin community. It has grown into an annual event that attracts not only Salvadorans but also many international guests.
Adopting Bitcoin, known as “the high-signal conference for Bitcoin builders,” as described on the official website, is much more than just a conference. It’s a hub of knowledge and experiences, serving as an incubator for groundbreaking ideas and actions. The very unique environment that inspires and help building long-lasting connections. No wonder this year’s program has been expanded to include a dedicated space for younger participants and their mentors called Bitcoin Para Niños.
This special addition, prepared in collaboration with the project named ‘Bitcoin Junior Club: Sovereign Generation‘, offers a fresh perspective and many unique opportunities to explore topics like sound money and creative thinking.
While the outdoor ‘leisure’ area is designed to welcome mostly young attendees, the agenda also features dedicated sessions, in both English and Spanish, for parents, teachers, and anyone interested in discussing the importance of sound money for future generations. Planned activities include educational games, collaborative drawing, book readings, soft-panel discussions, and possibly music-cartoon sessions—all promising a blend of fun and learning in one place.
Among the invited guests are some of the main speakers of the conference, each with a proven commitment to knowledge-sharing as well as life guidance for kiddos, teens, and entire families. Names like Samantha De Wahl, Ian Foster, Alejandra Miss Bitcoin, Reyna Chicas, Deanna Heikkinen, to put just a few, are among those expected at Bitcoin Para Niños. All participants will enjoy fun activities alongside these guests, as well as exciting materials from projects such as SHAmory, EconoKidz, Mi Primer Bitcoin, Free Market Kids, Satosh Bears, The Little Hodler, and more.
Access to Bitcoin Para Niños is complimentary for all Adopting Bitcoin ticket holders, making this the perfect opportunity for families to bring their children along. Kids under 18 don’t need extra tickets, making it even more appealing for anyone already based in El Salvador.
More details about the program will be available soon on the event’s official channels. Stay tuned to keep up to date!
