4 Major Points to Consider Before Investing in New Cryptocurrency Projects
The sheer number of cryptocurrency assets available is staggering, and the number of functional assets that are trading on major cryptocurrency exchanges, even more so. That said, there are always new and exciting projects coming out that feature innovative ideas, viable solutions to a wide range of problems in the project’s respective industries, and potentially profitable tokens and coins. Unfortunately, not all great crypto startups are as successful as we (or they) anticipate. It is the responsibility of investors to do their due diligence and fully analyze the potential returns of an investment before they put money into a crypto startup. But what exactly does this process entail?
If you are looking to put money into a new project, consider the following points before you take action.
1. The Marketing Strategy of the Devs Behind the Project
It doesn’t matter how great a cryptocurrency project is if the business model behind it is lacking. If you run into an excellent concept but find that the devs contributing to the project are doing very little to market their idea to the world (which will reveal itself in the form of a nonexistent user base) and there are no signs of improvement in the future, it is likely a bad investment. Avoid startups with poor business models and little to no chance of developing the right audience.
2. Anticipated Demand and Current Market Needs
Great cryptocurrency ideas are a dime a dozen, especially if they are up against similar models that are already thriving on the market. Take a moment to consider whether or not the project in question has a strong demand in today’s market, would be able to compete with other existing assets (or could carve its own path if it has no competitors), and if it is something that people would actually use. If you do not see a future for the asset, there are better projects out there for you to invest money in.
3. Volume, Liquidity, and Consequences of Owning the Asset
Investing money during the early stages of a startup comes with its fair share of risk, especially when you are investing in a project with high volatility. Sometimes, however, little volatility occurs because the project fails to fully launch, resulting in money that sits in your wallet and cannot be traded due to the lack of demand. If you want to avoid buying up assets that don’t sell, make sure to enter the project when it already has cash moving in and out.
It is also important to realize that projects can change focus, which can result in airdrops and hard forks. If you live in a country like the United States, these new assets could be considered taxable income, which is no good if you cannot sell the new assets that you have acquired. Always assess the potential risks of your investments before joining a project.
4. Project Success and Future Roadmap
Pay close attention to the status of the project and anticipated developments in the future. Have things been going according to plan? Is the team delivering on promises made in the past? Or, on the other end of the spectrum, is the project marred with issues that have consistently delayed its progress? Understanding how well a project is being executed in the present can reveal how well it may be run in the future. If a company is not making the progress they need to (and are not transparent about these developments), be wary about investing money into their venture.
Nothing is worse than putting money into a failing project. Although you will ultimately need to make the final decision when it comes to your investments and do your own research, there is some advice out there that can assist you in choosing projects with a better outcome. If you want to be extra careful about where you are investing your cash, use the four points above to assess the potential of a crypto project and avoid those that will inevitably fail in the process.
