And what’s new in the world of crypto?
Why Did the Bitcoin (BTC) Price Tumble Below $7,000?
• On Monday, the Bitcoin (BTC) price started to falter yet again;
• This strong spike lower resulted in $40 million worth of long position liquidations on BitMEX, implying that traders were expecting the cryptocurrency to go higher prior to the move;
• Right now, it isn’t clear exactly what took place to plunge the cryptocurrency by $300 in literal minutes;
• One such theory is that the market responded negatively to a report released by top blockchain analysis firm Chainalysis.
Hong Kong firm launches blockchain tool to prevent exploitation of domestic workers
• The tool is designed to promote the ethical recruitment of migrant workers around the globe, and allow agencies to assess their hiring practices;
• The tool, which is available for free online, will require employment agencies to volunteer information about how they recruit and place workers;
• According to Diginex, the use of blockchain technology — essentially a set of immutable, secure, data records — will strengthen data management and enforce data integrity, which allows for a higher level of transparency and visibility;
• The IOM screened and identified 84 victims of trafficking in Hong Kong [7] — most of them female migrant domestic workers — from August 2017 to this November.
This Deceptive Bitcoin Signal May Trigger a Brutal Price Crash
• Bitcoin longs are nearing record highs on margin trading platforms like Bitfinex;
• Cactus, the cryptocurrency technical analyst who first noticed the snowballing number of BTC longs, told CCN in an interview that while this may seem like a bullish trend, it could translate to a steep pullback in the short-term;
• On highly volatile days, the bitcoin price tends to move by more than 10% within a short period;
• In December 2018, the bitcoin price fell to around $4,000. At the time, longs started to spike as traders tried to protect lower support levels to prevent a further decline;
• Cryptocurrency traders like Josh Rager have emphasized that the short-term trend of bitcoin currently remains neutral.
Twitter To Move Platform To Blockchain: What Does This Mean For Users?
• Jack Dorsey tweeted that his company is funding a small team to develop a “decentralized standard for social media” with the ultimate goal of making Twitter a client of that standard while offering his rationale after a series of tweets;
• Dorsey also said that the way social media incentives are structured right now is “focused on content and conversation that sparks controversy and outrage, rather than conversation which informs and promotes health”;
• It’s an ambitious goal to transition to blockchain, especially for a small team of five people that isn’t formed yet. The team that Dorsey called BlueSky will task Twitter CTO Parag Agrawal to recruit the team members.
