US lawmakers have criticized the Department of Justice (DOJ) for “inappropriately” redacting files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, contravening the Epstein Files Transparency Act (EFTA). This legislation, signed into law by President Trump, requires the release of un-redacted Epstein documents, excluding victim identities, to identify potential co-conspirators. Democratic Representative Ro Khanna and Republican Thomas Massie, who co-sponsored the law, raised concerns after reviewing redacted files, noting that names were incorrectly hidden despite the law’s mandate. In response, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, addressing the issue on X, un-redacted non-victim names and confirmed the DOJ’s commitment to transparency, but Khanna insists that the files, originally redacted by Trump’s FBI, still do not meet EFTA’s requirements.
