A new study reveals the significant population declines in several US cities in 2023. Driven by economic factors, rising living costs, and remote work trends, the exodus from these urban areas has left a noticeable impact on their demographics.

The study, conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics, found that Memphis, Tennessee, suffered the sharpest population decline of 2.7%, followed by St. Louis, Missouri (-2.3%) and Baltimore, Maryland (-2.1%). These cities have experienced a steady outflow of residents seeking more affordable and desirable living environments.

The study highlights the complex challenges facing these cities as they grapple with declining populations, shrinking tax bases, and the need to revitalize their economies and infrastructure.
