Block Chain Philosophy
Like the Emperor’s new clothes in the story by Hans Christian Andersen that shares the same name, block chain is one of the Emperor’s new words, something that many people in the tech industry pretend to know, when in reality, very few people know about. SFOX’s founders are not part of this group, in fact, they know block chain so well that its philosophy is at the core of their company’s organizational structure. Because of their small size, SFOX has managed to not have an office for the first four years of their lifetime. Even now, the majority of their employees are remote workers, some of which spend most of their time outside of the United States. Much like block chain, SFOX is comprised of multiple people from around the world, who work together to achieve a common goal. This kind of independence has helped SFOX grow without being bogged down by bureaucracy.
The Cautious Hiring Process
SFOX has less than 40 employees. They are able to achieve their level of productiveness by hiring very passionate, very smart, and very independent people. However, because of the unique and independent nature of SFOX’s workplace, many people who seem to be a good fit on paper do not pan out well in practice. Instead of hiring them outright, SFOX will hire many potential employees as contractors for 3 months to see if they are a good fit. This practice helps SFOX root out anyone who does not thrive in their professional structure. This is beneficial to the scaling of the company as it ensures that hires will perform as well as possible, leading to more productivity and lower turnover rates.
Mind of an Innovator
Another quality SFOX looks for in its employees is the ability to be open and explore new things. Most of SFOX’s employees are engineers. Its employees are not managed by managers, but instead are expected to meet expectations and innovate their own solutions. These type of people tend to be a lot more open to thinking out of the box and coming up with innovative solutions. In short, SFOX recognizes that the right kind talent and willingness to innovate is key to the longevity of the company.
