I found this confusing and frustrating.. as I built things, helped people, sponsored things, collaborated with many projects etc. It seemed only natural to call out any bad actors, no matter who they were, that I believed were hurting the project long term. Those who were simply taking advantage of users, abusing the shared inflation pool, outright lying about what they were doing, etc.

But rather than this being a logical reaction to others as well, they saw it differently .. they thought I was being “negative” and “toxic” apparently. While I thought I was just protecting what I believed in.

As to me, this wasn’t some silly blogging platform or about short term gains, this was giving power back to the people. This was the beginning of something big- removing the middle man, taking away the power from a centralized force.. and giving it back to where it belonged.

Yes, I am one of those crazy people who are not here for the pump, rather The Revolution.

I quickly realized that while I felt I was protecting something I believed in, from those who were hurting it (in my opinion) for their own self-interest- others did not agree. They, in fact, cheered these people on. “We should be happy they are building here.” They supported them, in many ways, and helped them thrive.

No matter how many times these projects went on to be exposed as adding absolutely no value, only extracting it, it still was “Toxic” to call them out. I was questioning why I seemed to see this all so differently than the others.

Perhaps I was the issue after all, and therefore I began to take steps back on my involvement in the project. As while there were (are) many positive things about it, I just didn’t see eye to eye with those making the decisions and found it quite disappointing that many of them were partaking in this abuse behavior themselves, and attempting to silence anyone who disagreed with their actions. So, I decided to opt out.
