Mastercard to Develop its Own Cryptocurrency and Wallet

Mastercard is looking to hire several blockchain specialists, including several in senior positions, in an effort to produce cryptocurrency and wallet products. Mastercard to Develop its Own Cryptocurrency and Wallet.

As per the company’s job website, the following positions are listed to be filled by Mastercard: Global exchange

  • senior blockchain engineer and engineering lead
  • director for product development and innovation
  • vice president for product management
  • director of product management for cryptocurrency and wallets

According to the job descriptions, the new employees will “work with a cross-functional team comprising of Franchise, Compliance, Regulation, Products, Labs, Regions and Technology to develop new products and solutions”.

The wallet director will be in charge of Mastercard’s patent portfolio and filing fresh patent requests. Together with the Product Development and Innovation Director, and the Product Management Vice President is also included.

Apart from that, the job description speaks quite positively of the crypto sector, indicating a prospective applicant will possess specific qualities:

“Do you have the courage to look into the eyes of disruptive forces without fear, and maneuver them to your advantage?
Do you have the desire to work at the cutting-edge intersection of payments and crypto-currencies?
Do you have the ambition to build something which you can narrate to your grandchildren?

Adding further, “if the answer is yes — Mastercard is the right place for such a candidate, the description suggests.”

Globalexchange– The new management team is also expected to promote blockchain ideas within Mastercard itself.

As per the description of the roles of the director and VP, they are required to “establish a shared vision across the company. This is by influencing and building consensus among the various stakeholders.

Mastercard is participating in a loose cross-industry alliance promoting the launch of the upcoming Facebook cryptocurrency, Libra, by being a member of the Libra Association.
