A 47-year-old man has been arrested in Poland for his alleged involvement in the Phobos ransomware operation. Polish police, in coordination with the Central Cybercrime Bureau, discovered hacking tools, payment card numbers, and communications with the Phobos group on the suspect’s devices. Emerging in 2019, Phobos ransomware has been linked to over 1,000 attacks globally, prompting early 2024 US government warnings to critical infrastructure sectors about cyber threats. This arrest follows a broader international crackdown, where US and European authorities dismantled parts of the Phobos operation and apprehended several Russian nationals believed to be integral to the cybercrime network.
