I’ve been hunting for Satoshi’s Treasure for a few months now..
I will try to keep this as short as possible, because I’m writing this post for two reasons: one is to hopefully get some more people enthusiastic about these treasure hunts, and two is to write about the first Budapest location based key. Which we were looking forward to from the moment we started this hunt! When Satoshi’s Treasure hunt was announced (I think it was somewhere in April), my boyfriend tried to convince me to join this mysterious hunt (he wasn’t interested at all). I was convinced this was a hunt meant for hackers and coders and people that actually have some knowledge about how cryptocurrencies and blockchain works, and that a person like me would never stand a chance to even grab a small bit of the price. The first moment I was introduced to Satoshi’s Treasure, was when the hunt was announced, and we only had a website with little info, and the option to sign up for updates. The one thing that was very clear, and of course that was exactly the reason people were interested in the hunt, is the prize of 1 million dollars worth of Bitcoin! Because of the huge amount, I assumed even more that this was a hunt meant for people with coding/hacking skills only. Not long after the announcement, I forgot about this hunt, until I came across a post from the Steemclan on Steemit. Steemians united to hunt for Satoshi’s Treasure in a clan named: Steemclan. This was the moment I actually gained some interest, while I have only read in the (back then) highly active Discord server.
So what happened since? A lot! As soon as I was infected with the hunting virus, and especially when I retrieved my first key, I was hooked. I still think it was pretty cool that the key I retrieved for the clan was called The Freedom Key and the key was number 17 which also has a special meaning here. This is the clue that got released at the time. It was a so-called location based key.
At this point I got very actively involved in the hunt, and soon I became a mod and not long after I also became the admin in the server. I had loads of fun with the other active hunters, and I even convinced my boyfriend to join us for the hunt. Together we have managed to unlock several keys, making it much more fun as we hunted together.
I’ve always stayed friendly with other clans, and sincerely congratulated them when they retrieved another key. I never felt any hard feelings or jealousy, only healthy competition. Where the Steemclan was super active before the summer holidays started, as quiet it was while the holidays were there. I assumed people were actually enjoying some family time, real life things, as they should of course. Life isn’t all about work and treasure hunts, right? Thanks to a new member we managed to obtain some of the last keys, while I could only read and wait for a new clue to drop that I could help with. When our strongest asset of the clan decided to leave the clan to join Toshi Ciphers, the biggest competition for Steemclan, I had the feeling that we didn’t stand a chance anymore. Sad, but true. You can’t predict who is active when and for how long, but only adapt along the way.
I didn’t even notice, as the hunt didn’t officially start according to the Satoshi Treasure website there was no clue drop yet. While the Toshi Ciphers clan already found the satellite message with clue in it. The message contained 10 coordinates to 10 different keys in different countries. It was brought to my attention that one of the coordinates was located in Budapest! We were waiting for a key to drop in Budapest for months, so here was our chance! I was dealing with our feverish little girl, and asked my boyfriend to do the honours of getting the key not far from our home. I thought it was quite a shame not to be able to go myself, but like I said before, real life comes first. So I gave him the location, because it’s a place where we’ve been before, and he was going to look for the sticker after work.
I think it’s best explained on the website of Satoshi’s Treasure:
Of course the prizes may differ from day to day as it’s of course cryptocurrency. But when I checked it, the prize of 1 XTZ was just below $ 1. Meaning this mini hunt has a prize of almost 5000 dollar for the person/clan that unlocks the wallet first. Not too shabby, right? The mini hunt contains 14 keys, which all will be needed to unlock the wallet that has the prize of 5000 XTZ inside. Only one or a few keys will not give you any prize. So you are actually forced to work together, or be creative enough to connect with people around the world to help you find the keys. Our hunt started last Friday, when my boyfriend went to the Budapest location according to the coordinates on the satellite message that had been sent out by Tezos.
This picture above is one made on the stairs of this ruin pub here in Budapest. As you can see the walls are all filled with writings, drawings and stickers already, so pretty hard to find the sticker with the QR code to find the key..
He found the yellow sticker which looks like this:
I’ve replaced the original QR code for a QR leading to Toshi Ciphers website, as of course, I’m not going to throw the key out here while we’re still hunting to get the wallet unlocked. I’m just showing it in the post to give you an idea what these stickers look like.
My boyfriend contacted one of his colleagues out there, and he seemed very willing to help. He even said that he would go there Saturday morning before work. My expectations weren’t exactly the same though, I thought he was probably going to look for the sticker after work. So when we didn’t hear anything on Saturday, we were waiting patiently until the afternoon, hoping to hear back from him. But until today, he hasn’t contacted my boyfriend about it anymore. Maybe he couldn’t find it, maybe he just didn’t feel like going anymore, who knows. So if there’s anyone here located in Dubai and willing to go to visit the Almas Tower and take a picture of the sticker there, please leave a comment below. If you are the first to deliver the sticker, and (very important!) we are the first to unlock the wallet (meaning $$$) you will get your share of the prize for finding this key!
Hope you enjoyed reading a bit more about one of the things that I love doing: Treasure Hunting! And if you are interested in participating, let me know.. we can always use some extra hunters..
