FTX and Everstake Launch Crypto Fundraising Site for Ukraine
The Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation today announced, in partnership with FTX and Everstake, the launch of an official crypto fundraising site called Aid for Ukraine to help expedite donations to the war-torn nation.
Currently, donations to Aid for Ukraine can be made in BTC, ETH, USDT, DOT, SOL, DOGE, XMR, ICON, EOS, and NEO.
FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried first announced the partnership last week.
Since Russia invaded on February 24, more than $60 million in cryptocurrency has been donated to Ukraine’s government, according to data compiled by the blockchain tracker Elliptic.
In total, over $93.6 million in cryptocurrency has gone to Ukrainian entities, both government and non-government, since the start of the conflict, the majority in Ethereum, according to data from analytics firm Merkle Science.
Aid for Ukraine said all funds raised through the site will directly go to the nation’s armed forces and to civilians seeking humanitarian assistance.
In a one-on-one discussion at this year’s Camp Ethereal, sponsored by Decrypt, Bankman-Fried spoke with Australian philosopher and animal rights activist Peter Singer about crypto use in Ukraine.
“If there’s a tank outside your bank,” Bankman-Fried said, “you’re going to be more underbanked than you thought you were, so I think it’s been really been cool to see [crypto] give an international financial lifeline.”
