Firstly, you may ask, “just what is a polyglot”?

The simple answer is a person who is able to use many languages.

In fact, persons who are proficient in 6 or more languages are considered to be a “hyperglots”.

In the “age of the crypto” we may all need to become hyperglots of the many cryptocurrency offerings ourselves. To be sure, the “language” of the digital currency world is often strange and obtuse.

We learn our “native” language when we are young, and with that, we learn our cultural proclivities as well. When we are presented with new forms, whether in language, culture or even math, we find ourselves sort of translating, at first, to a known understanding. When we become more familiar with the language, we are more comfortable. Often we try to compare our new understanding to known archetypes. These comparisons or translations make the world go round.

Our brains are pattern-matching machines and one of the major cues they draw upon is that of context. The more context that is associated with the knowledge, the stronger your recollection will be. Hence, science tells us that we need a connection to a new subject, or a “frame of reference”, before we feel comfortable with the new.

The new digital crypto markets are somewhat similar. In a recent study, published from the Basque research centre BCBL, they have discovered that the language of conversation impacts on the “synchronisation” of our brains. What is noteworthy, is that as two people speak, their brains begin to work simultaneously, synchronising, and establishing a unique bond. However, the study goes on to say, “speaking a foreign language makes our brains align in a different way to understand the speaker or interlocutor. The brains of two people who speak a foreign language establish a different neuronal bond from when they use their native language, in order to understand the interlocutor”.

“When a conversation takes place in one’s native language, both interlocutors pay attention to it in a more global way, focusing on the sentences and the global content of the message,” stresses Jon Andoni Duñabeitia, co-author of the study.

However, when done in a foreign language, attention resources focus primarily on other, more complex linguistic levels for non-native speakers, such as sounds and words.

There is some thought that the way we perceive our native currency and that of a foreign currency is much the same. We perceive our own native money in a “general” sense and foreign money in a complex way to achieve an understanding.

The advent of the new digital crypto age brings a certain cognitive dissonance to our behavioural decisions. Often, as it is with language, there is an actual “spatial separation” that occurs in adult minds. Studies indicate in language, with children who have been brought up speaking two or more languages, there is no “spatial” discontinuity. In other words, the same part of the brain works in either language.

Neuroscience tells us that the brain is a remarkably plastic entity.

The study goes on to say, “in the latter communicative context we need to reconfigure our attention strategies so that we can understand each other, and this may be directly related to the difference in the areas synchronised during the conversation,” suggests Duñabeitia.

The revolution is about us and the “language” of money, currency, dollars and a myriad of other distinctions in “fiat” currency are changing rapidily. These old forms of commerce, security and even savings are being challenged by new and innovative technologies that have the promise to bring lasting, and most likely, disruptive changes to the old norms.

We might well need to align our brains in a different way to understand the transformation occurring internationally. It is this writer’s belief that what is happening is less a novelty and more a metamorphosis. Whether this will be a revolution or an innovative transformation to the new digital age of currency, only time will tell. We must remember, although time is linear, advancements are often exponential.

It is difficult to learn another language. It may even be more difficult to even consider the possibility of learning a new way to manage, and daily use, digital currency.

As this new digital cryptography currency comes of age, how and when we become involved is based on our desires and needs. But, be assured, it has come, is coming and in many ways, it is here.

If you have read this far, maybe it is your time to learn this new language of money and find out for yourself the possibilities it may bring. As in any new opportunity there are winners and losers. Whether Bitcoin will become the new international standard, or another digital currency will replace it or become a new standard, remains to be seen.

The ASTRcoin is positioned to be the universal currency of space. For a currency to be viable it must have the “spatial” context within the mind of the consumer. In other words we must know about it and bring it into our “daily-speak”. It must have common sense attributes which entail measurable markers such as sustainability, inherent value and liquidity.

Hernando de Soto, a Peruvian economist, known for his work on the “informal economy” and the importance of business and property rights, reminds us that to have a strong market economy we must have an adequate information framework that records property claims and other economic information. He goes on to state, “presently, an “elite” minority enjoys the economic benefits of the law and globalisation”.

As the language of the digital cryptocurrency markets become spatially resident in our minds and our neural plasticity rewires our thoughts about currency and monetary systems, we will and must, “boldly go where no-one has gone before”. By changing the paradigm and investing new digital currencies we may be able to reinvent the systems worldwide and create a new open and transparent system that will allow all to participate.
