Digital Asset infrastructure continues to be built – Jonny Fry
Merj, a crypto currency exchange which has been working with the Seychelles regulators since 2014to create a regulated exchange, has just announced that it is the world’s first security token to be listed on a national stock exchange in the Seychelles. This looks like a very interesting project as it aims to offer a one-stop-shop, having created a regulated exchange together with custody, registrar and clearing services ‘all under one roof’.
However, I suspect that the company — 2030– in the UK will disagree, as Merj issued its security token in March 2018 on the London Stock Exchange.
Meanwhile, there are other various companies around the world which are offering services to help launch STOs and digitise assets:
· New Alchemy in the US
· Digitizing Assets in Asia
· Globacap or TokenMarket in the UK
· Tokeny , NueFund, Fintelum and BlackManta in Europe.
There are other organisations which are building the infrastructure needed if we are to see greater adoption of this asset class, and Alaco, DAG Global and Custody Digital (all three based in the UK) are good examples of how the types of services are required.
Alaco Analytics offer specialist due diligence on Digital Assets using the network and contacts it has built up over 15 years, also including Blockchain analytics and public record research. It offers a third-party overview of regulatory and reputational risks, as well as helping custodians, banks and other institutions support, when carrying out Know Your Client (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks. DAG Global Blohas identified there is a need to offer banking services to the Digital and Crypto sectors and is looking to obtain a full UK banking licence and be open for business in Q4 2019. Custody Digital, as the name suggests, is going to provide custody services for institutions to be able to hold Digital Assets.
So, the infrastructure is being built and, while there is still a way to go, solutions are being created by both new players as well as more well-established organisations.
