Dether Tech and Project Update #10 – Dether Wallet
Dether joins FIO as an affiliate member
Dether is thrilled to be a part of FIO, the Foundation for Interwallet Operability. While cryptocurrency offers a myriad of benefits, including instantaneous transactions, low transaction fees, and increasing global accessibility, the overall UX, especially for new users, leaves much to be desired. Wallet addresses are long and complex, and unlike popular mobile payment services, such as Venmo, there’s no simple way to “request” a crypto payment from someone.
FIO, wants to change that, by implementing a the FIO Protocol, which would make sure that all crypto wallets have:
- Human-readable public addresses
- The ability to request a send from any FIO Address
- Encrypted metadata attached to any transaction
As a part of FIO, Dether agrees to contribute to the development of the FIO protocol, and based on our experience and knowledge, provide feedback on diverse aspects of the FIO Protocol during its development.
Dether ambassadors prepare to pitch in their home countries
Last month we interviewed Nigeria’s Dether ambassador, Israel, who told us all about the state of cryptocurrency in Nigeria, and the potential for Dether there to replace peer-to-peer trading via WhatsApp groups.
Most recently, we’ve finished a project to localize Dether promotional materials for ambassadors in Latin America and Haiti, including materials that are easily accessible offline when electricity may not be available in Haiti. Ambassadors in Latin America have been working to identify possible barriers to onboarding to first-time wallet users, who are familiar with mining crypto, but are new to buying and selling ETH, stablecoins, and other ERC20 tokens.
