In 2008, a group of black-belt scientists working under the gang name Satoshi Nakamoto discovered a new metal-making process.

This metal — which they called blockchainium—takes a lot of energy to mine, but has a number of fascinating properties:

Among other things, blockchainium is potentially tamper-proof, corrosion-proof, antibacterial, and never needs to be serviced by third-parties.

Slowly but surely, people started seeing the benefits and started making tools from blockchainium.

The very first tool forged from this metal was BitKnife, a razor-sharp scalpel that — remarkably — could get sharper and sharper over time, without the need for sharpening by medical third parties.

BitKnife started trending, and trending hard.

In less than a decade, BitKnives became especially popular in the medical sector as substitutes for surgical knives. BitKnife = Bitcoin; BitKnives = cryptocurrencies; medical = financial; et al.

Without the need for third-party sharpening and third-party inspections, folks using BitKnives could work much harder and more efficiently.

Traditional knives needed to be cleaned, serviced, and rested each night and at regular intervals. But BitKnives worked 24/7/365.

Many surgeons who adopted them became much more productive, efficient, and wealthy as a result.

It wasn’t long before promoters started saying things like:

Running non-stop for eight years, with almost no [medical] loss [due to BitKnives themselves], [BitKnife] is now in important ways the most reliable and secure [medical] network in the world. Szabo (2017)

A whole global economy started growing around trading BitKnives.

While many people did peer-to-peer BitKnife trading, a lot of folks bought and sold their BitKnives on exchanges like KnifeBase — which offered easy ways to store BitKnives when they weren’t being used.

Knife exchanges boomed in popularity by making it easy to trade different types of BitKnives — 24/7/365. This was paradise for surgeons and gamblers, and everyone else who wanted to try out blochchainium.

BitKnife price fluctuation made some folks really wealthy, and healed a lot of medical scars. But many others just got sliced, diced, and REKT.

Thankfully, during this time, a lot of other engineers were pushing blockchainium applications much farther — way beyond BitKnife.
