Amazon faces financial risks, rating downgraded to Hold

Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) has faced a significant decline in its stock value, dropping over double digits year-to-date, amid broader struggles in the tech sector as major ETFs also report losses. This downturn follows concerns regarding the company’s financial outlook, particularly projections indicating a potential contraction in net income for 2026, despite a 31% growth in net income the previous year. Factors contributing to this cautious sentiment include high capital spending plans of $200 billion—which could lead to negative free cash flow—and ongoing labor challenges, such as strikes at European warehouses and severance costs from job cuts. Given these obstacles, an analyst has downgraded AMZN’s rating from Buy to Hold, although there remains a possibility for recovery should revenue and margins improve.
