David Luan, the head of Amazon’s artificial general intelligence (AGI) lab, is set to leave the company less than two years after joining through an acqui-hire deal involving his startup Adept. In a LinkedIn post, Luan announced his departure, citing his desire to explore new opportunities while noting the exciting work still to be done in the field of AGI, which aims to produce useful AI agents and advance competitive models like Amazon’s Nova. His exit comes amid Amazon’s recent reorganization of its AGI division under Peter DeSantis and follows increased scrutiny by regulatory bodies, including the Federal Trade Commission, regarding AI acqui-hire practices in the tech industry.
