On Tuesday, as the NATO summit in Ankara begins, the results of the latest international survey showed that most Lithuanians support the country’s membership in NATO, the Ministry of National Defence announced.
Based on the survey, 91 percent of Lithuanians said they would vote for Lithuania to remain in the Alliance, while 75 percent of Lithuanians believe that NATO membership reduces the likelihood of an attack against the country.
The survey also showed that 79 percent of Lithuanians believe that defence investments are important or very important for the country’s security. Whereas 72 percent agree with the current or higher level of defence funding.
The ministry notes that in recent years Lithuania has substantially increased defence spending and this is appreciated by the allies, who increasingly cite the country as a model NATO member.
The NATO survey was conducted this spring in 32 NATO member states. The margin of error is 3 percent.
