2019: A Year in Review – Fluidity

AirSwap Trader freed OTC groups from escrow scams.
In August, we released AirSwap Trader, a refined “trustless escrow” for OTC traders, designed from our takeaways building our former product, AirSwap Spaces. Trader is the “atomic swap” brought to life through a clean frontend, providing a safe way for OTC trading communities to transact.
Indexers became fully decentralized smart contracts.
At the same time in August, we published the first details on the new AirSwap Protocols. The AirSwap indexer, used for automated counterparty discovery, was to be implemented through smart contracts, making for a simple, fully decentralized peer-to-peer trading network.
Delegates opened the door to on-chain liquidity integrations.
We recently completed a new component known as delegates — smart contracts that provide quotes and take orders. They’re simple to setup and manage, and are a good fit for traders with fixed prices in mind who wish to maintain custody of their tokens while trading.
Maker Kit made it easy for anyone to join the network.
In November we introduced Maker Kit, a command line interface (CLI) for interacting with indexers, tokens, and peers on the AirSwap network. We also introduced an example and tutorial for how to deploy an automated maker bot in just a few steps.
Fluidity Summit bridged traditional and decentralized finance.
On May 9th, the team hosted the second Fluidity Summit, at which AirSwap was among many teams, projects, and companies all gathering to envision and realize the future of finance, rebuilt on a new, decentralized foundation.
ETHNewYork brought the Ethereum community to Brooklyn.
In mid-May, ETHGlobal came to New York with members of the AirSwap team hacking, and others participating in talks and supporting the AirSwap sponsor table. It was a great experience for the team and the first opportunity to re-introduce AirSwap as a network for developers.
Devcon5 was an opportunity for the AirSwap team to shine.
In early-October, Ethereum went to Osaka, with 5 members of the AirSwap team presenting, and another 5 in attendance. We covered encryption, design, coding, tools, and infrastructure. We came away with rekindled friendships and an optimistic view on the future of Ethereum.
With the new protocols complete and deployed to mainnet, the AirSwap product team and our development partners are hard at work bringing new products and features online that take advantage of new kinds of tokens, on-chain liquidity, and open source development.
We welcome you to join our community and to build on AirSwap, with thanks to you and to the Ethereum trading and developer communities for making 2019 our best yet. Here’s to carrying the momentum into 2020 and another great year ahead.
